I am thinking about investing in a Sex Positive Facebook Clone. Intended for adults only. The intent is to keep it totally free and work off advertising fees, the same way facebook makes money. It would be a very similar social network, with chat, groups, events calendars, as well as 'walls' to post and the ability to upload photos and videos.
I know this is one of the smartest audiences in the genre. As I am a long time listener, I would like to hear your input on this idea. Think of it as market research. (Before I get a hundred messages saying "Keep the porn bots out". I am already working on making them harder to implement, and hopefully without every user typing some wonky numbers and letters every time they do anything) What would you want to see in such a sight. IE... 1. Filterable photos/content 2. Mobile connectivity 3. "APP" compatability (Think mafia wars) 4. Contests 5. Formal or user ran Lifestyle groups (Poly, swinger, Fetish, Political, etc..) 6. (Please insert your own idea here) About me. I am just a regular nerd, who loves the show, and spreads the sex positive gospel everywhere I can. I would love to be able to share more on Facebook, but with the HUGE number of minors on that site I thought that a site that was open and welcoming to a sex positive culture. The hope would be to draw all sorts of different mindsets together. Bondage could network with the poly, etc.. The great sharing of ideas and friendships. Let me know what you think. Feed back appreciated. |

Hey there- have you checked out FetLife (www.fetlife.com)? There are a number of people who are kink / fetish polyfolk that hang out there - they have some of the things you're talking about, and it may be a good place to check out & see what they've implemented and what you think works in that forum.

I'm glad people keep pointing me to Fetlife. (Yes, I am a semi-active member, and have been for a couple years). I love Fetlife, and they do a superb job in their genre. But there is little for open/poly/swingers on there (Which is not their focus and is understandable). I am looking to fill the niche of the rest. I heard a study once that said one in 5 people have had non-monogamous (open, swinging, etc...) experiences. Thats 20% of the population. Why can't we have a well organized social network site similar to Fetlife. I am not sure, but I doubt the BDSM community can claim that 1 in 5. (wish I could remember where I got that statistic from. I hate to state something as fact that might be wrong, but i've heard it several times.)
Why can't the Open/Poly/Swinger community be a little more 'together'. The ideology of the Fetish community is much more diversified (Diversity being a trademark of the fet community) than the O/P/S. And yet we have little tiny things scattered to the 4 winds of the internet. I want something as great for our lifestyle as Fetlife is for the fetish community. Ok, jumping off my soapbox. |

***UPDATE***
I have found a Backer, and with the money here Tomorrow we are going to get the site up and running. Already have a Domain and a name. We are MOVING FORWARD. We are going to run a 4-6 week beta test of our Sex Positive Social Network, and are looking for as many people as possible to sign up and give it a test run. Once again our intent is to keep this site free to the users, like other mainstream social networks. We are particularly looking for SP (Sex Positive Advocates) who are educated in their particular area of study. This site isn't going to be strictly for 'sex' topics, but for anything the users want to discuss in user made and controlled groups and discussions. We are also going to be running free classified ads by location for anyone who offers proffesional services that is Sex Positive. IE, attorneys, doctors, accountants, etc.. Why are we doing this? We are attempting to compile the internet's greatest sex positive asset. A place where you can meet anyone of the same philosophy in ALL aspects of life, not just Sex. (but lets face it. we need a central hub to connect all the different great sites and people who are sex positive). Reply to this, or send a private message if you are interested in being one of the first to be notified when we take the site 'live'. Thanks for your support. P.S. we are still have lots of advertising slots open, and looking for people to promote the site. Thanks, Phill |

WE ARE UP!!!
It took longer than expected, but we are up and running and would like to get your input. Invite your friends. Lets get as many people on the site at possible. There will be changes as we go. Right now the only thing that I ask is not to put 'ADULT' pictures as your profile picture. Let's keep this 'Work Safe'. This will be written into the user agreement as we go. But lets test it out. http://www.plabook.com |

That is one reason I always like Tribe. It was not focused on any one group BUT the design made it very easy to find your niches of interest and build relationships, friendships share advice etc. Tribe still has a healthy chunk of Poly/ swinger tribes but I also could connect with people on other interests. I made more than one romantic connection there because I would find my self in multiple tribes with the same people all the time. I would love their comments and we would build a friendship which became a deep interest... My husband and I met there. Tribe allowed photo content of any type on mature tribes and had the same rule about no nudity in icon pics. Sadly that site has suffered from infrastructure issue and has grown unreliable over the last few years. What ever you do make sure there are very tight privacy settings. This type of material can be used against people in court.
